The proposed new edition aims to reproduce the author's text of Glinka more faithfully. This poses difficult problems for the editor, since inaccuracies and inconsistencies are contained in the autograph itself.

One can only speculate about the reasons for these apparant oversights. Perhaps the underlying nostalgic atmosphere of the piece was a reason for Glinka's seeming carelessness, or maybe this sonata was simply an experimental work of his youth.
